I've been chasing the decisive moment in sports since the mid-1990s, camera in hand on the sidelines of Tiger Stadium.

I picked up a camera as a student at LSU in the mid-90s, and sports quickly became the obsession. Nothing quite like the energy of Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night in Baton Rouge, and I wanted to find a way to be part of it. I was on the sidelines shooting football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and swimming for the campus newspaper, Tiger Weekly. One of the highlights from those years was being on the sidelines in 1997 when LSU upset the No. 1 team in the country, Florida, 28-21. LSU baseball was at its pinnacle then too, and I was shooting right in the middle of a 10-year run that produced five national championships.

My gear has changed a lot since those early days. I started out shooting film on a Nikon FE2, then upgraded to a Nikon N90s to keep up with the pace of game action. After I left LSU, I made the jump to digital in the early 2000s with a Canon 20D, then upgraded to a Canon EOS-1D Mark II N before eventually moving over to Sony's mirrorless line, drawn to how much faster and quieter it let me work close to the action. Today I shoot with a Sony A1 II and a few of their premier lenses.

These days I'm focused on bringing that same eye to high school, college, and professional sports — covering the speed, contact, and split-second drama of live competition, and handing athletes, teams, and programs images that capture what it actually felt like to be there.
